Dear QJSHS Parents, Students, Staff and Community:Greetings! I am the 2015-2016 Questa Junior/Senior High School Principal. I look forward to serving the community of Questa and being a Wildcat. My experience in Education includes 15 years as a high school math teacher in Oklahoma before moving into administrative positions. I have held positions as Curriculum Writer and Grant Director in Oklahoma before moving to Shiprock, NM where I was the principal at Career Prep High School.

During my years as an educator, I have received numerous awards including the 2001 Outstanding Title VII Director of the Year in Oklahoma, and the 2013 New Mexico Principal of the Year. But, my greatest achievement in education is seeing my past students being successful in amazing careers throughout our great country.

The Vision of Questa Independent Schools is “All Students Will Graduate College or Career Ready”. Working together we can achieve this goal and marvel as Questa students soar above our greatest imaginations. The programs offered at Questa Junior/Senior High School are a stepping stone into the future for our students. We want these programs to be exciting, and detailed, and rigorous so that our students are thoroughly prepared for life after high school.

You will see some changes at Questa Junior/Senior High School this year as we move into the future. One of the biggest changes will be transitioning to a block schedule in grades 7-12. This will give students and teachers a larger span of time to work on advanced coursework, and better prepare our students for college courses. I ask for your patience as we transition to this new schedule. Another change will be the implementation of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) at Questa. PLTW will provide our students with invigorating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities at every grade level.

I look forward to meeting, and working with, the students, staff, parents and community members in Questa. Please feel free to contact me at the high school with your ideas and concerns. My email is jrock@questa.k12.nm.us or you can call (575)586-1604 extension 2004.

Students at Questa Junior/Senior High School are provided with academic opportunities to learn from highly-qualified teachers in the content areas of Mathematics, English, Spanish, Science, and Social Studies.  Students in grades 10-12 are given the opportunity to take courses at the UNM Taos Campus each Friday and earn college credit for the courses offered.  Students enrolled in Culinary Arts, Welding and Spanish are able to receive dual-credit; which means that they receive both high school credit as well as college credit.  For more information on our dual credit courses, you may contact Mrs. Ellie Bishop at the counseling office at ebishop@questa.k12.nm.us.  Questa Junior and Senior high students also have elective courses in Fine Arts, Industrial Arts, & Technology.  We are proud to announce that Questa High School received a designation of MET on New Mexico's Adequate Yearly Progress report provided by the State Department of Education.  We are committed to continue on our path to provide opportunities for our students to succeed at the Questa Junior/Senior High School.

The Athletic Department at QJHS provides opportunities for male and female students to join in sports in the fall, winter, and spring seasons.  Available sports for our athletes include Football, Soccer (co-ed), Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Baseball, Track (co-ed), and Cheer/Dance.  For more information on our Athletic programs you may contact our Athletic Director  Jesus Maes.
