Greetings Parents, Staff, Students, and Community Members of Questa:

My name is Dr. Mae LaBella and I am extremely happy to join the staff here at Questa Junior/Senior High School as the new Principal.  I am very passionate about education and look forward to collaborating with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and positive school experience.  As a parent of two children, and having been in education for 16 years, I understand the significance of education and its impact on sending students out into the community college and career ready.  It has been said that “it takes a village to raise a child” and I believe that by collaborating, we can ensure that the social, emotional, and academic needs of our students are met.

I was born and raised in Arroyo Seco, NM and attended Taos High School, but have a special place in my heart for Questa.  As a child, I have fond memories of spending summers with my god parents and playing with my cousins who lived here in Questa.  Before joining Questa Junior/Senior High School, I served in many capacities while working with the Taos School District.  Some of the positions I have held include classroom teacher at all three levels (elementary school, middle school, and high school) and district math coach.  In addition, I have also taught at the college level for UNM-Taos.

My credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree from Pitzer College (Claremont Colleges) Political Studies; a Master’s Degree in teaching Math and Science from New Mexico State University in collaboration with the Math and Science Academy (LANL); a teacher’s licensure from Highlands University; and a Doctorate degree in K-12 Educational Leadership/Administration through Jones International University.  In addition, I attended two years of law school at Concord University.

I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers and staff.  I will be working closely with our staff as a team to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at Questa Junior/Senior High School.  In order to accomplish this, I will provide teachers with feedback on their instruction, provide professional development, and reaching out to parents and community members for feedback on how the school is doing.

Again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to serve as principal in this great community.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.  You can email me at or feel free to call me at the school at 575-586-1604.
