My name is Hector David Cavazos. I am from the small south Texas town of Falfurrias and have been in New Mexico going on 10 years. I am the new Questa Jr/Sr High school principal. I am deeply honored and privileged to be here at Questa as a Wildcat. I have been in education for 23 years as substitute teacher, teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and director. I have been an administrator for 14 of those years.

I welcome you to our school's website and I hope that you will find it a useful tool.  Our goal is to continue our communication with you and to keep you informed of all academic and social events that take place throughout the 2014-2015 school year.  You will find pictures, important announcements, school grades, etc. posted at this web site.

As an overview, our school is consistently focused on its vision that, "All students will graduate college or career ready." We are very excited that our school continues to make academic gains as evidenced by standardized assessments. Questa High School again received a "B" and Questa Junior High went down to a "F" this past school year.  We believe that we understand why the Junior High went down and with our increase student achievement through the analysis of student data and the assessment of our instructional practices we will be successful.  We have very high expectations of our students academically and behaviorally.

In closing, I am looking forward to begin this new school year and meeting each and every one of you. Please understand that my office is always open to you and you are always welcome. You can reach me via email hcavazos@questa.k12.nm.us or call me at 575-586-1604 ext. 2004.

Students at Questa Junior/Senior High School are provided with academic opportunities to learn from highly-qualified teachers in the content areas of Mathematics, English, Spanish, Science, and Social Studies.  Students in grades 10-12 are given the opportunity to take courses at the UNM Taos Campus each Friday and earn college credit for the courses offered.  Students enrolled in Culinary Arts, Welding and Spanish are able to receive dual-credit; which means that they receive both high school credit as well as college credit.  For more information on our dual credit courses, you may contact Mr. Fidel Torres at the counseling office at ftorres@questa.k12.nm.us.  Questa Junior and Senior high students also have elective courses in Fine Arts, Industrial Arts, & Technology.  We are proud to announce that Questa High School received a designation of MET on New Mexico's Adequate Yearly Progress report provided by the State Department of Education.  We are committed to continue on our path to provide opportunities for our students to succeed at the Questa Junior/Senior High School.

The Athletic Department at QJHS provides opportunities for male and female students to join in sports in the fall, winter, and spring seasons.  Available sports for our athletes include Football, Soccer (co-ed), Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Baseball, Track (co-ed), and Cheer/Dance.  For more information on our Athletic programs you may contact our Athletic Director  Jesus Maes.
